  • Planning Trips to Lagos

A beautiful sun shines over the green grasses of Lagos most of the year and provides a good amount of sunlight hours. Radiant grasses and clear blue seas combine to make Lagos, a spectacular place. Set in this beautiful city are the many cultures and all that flamboyance and exuberance. Some people travel to Lagos for its hip, happening and lively ambiance while others travel to the city to catch a glimpse of its festivals. Whatever may be the reason,   flights to Lagos are surely the best way to get in your element.

However, in order to have perfectly comfortable and desirable times in this part of Nigeria, a little bit of prior knowledge about Lagos’ weather is necessary. Since the city is a tropical savannah, climatic conditions of Lagos usually remain warm and humid. Temperatures in the city would never drop below 18oC and rainfalls occur in most months, however there is a dry season too. Precipitation may or may not occur during the dry season but wetness is a constant feature of the atmosphere. Although temperatures do not vary at large in Lagos, seasonal changes can be quite clear between a heavy rain season, low rain season and a dry season. Precipitation occurs at full force between the months of April to July and can measure up to 300mm. Until August, rainfalls drop to 75mm and continue at the same amount until September. From October starts the low rain season which ends by the end of November.

Perhaps not everyone but rain lovers might want to board cheap flights to Lagos during any of these months. For this time of the year, light-weight clothing and a preferable rain gear are recommended to be packed. Umbrellas, knee-high boots and rain coats might be helpful. It is also a fairly good time for photographers and sightseers as natural vegetations spring up and come to life with the arrival of rains.

From December till February, prevail the dry season that brings in Harmattan winds from the Sahara Desert. These months are dry and dusty when sands of the Sahara are seen filling the Lagosian air. However, these winds might not be very disturbing all year round as their intensity can vary from month to month. Average temperatures during these months, especially January, remain around 27oC. Rainfalls in January are as low as 35mm. The hottest month in Lagos is March at 29oC and the coolest is July at 25oC. It is a norm in Lagos for temperatures to stay between 20oC and 30oC.

Since temperatures are not very widely varied in Lagos, travelers should rather look up to rain or dryness conditions in order to plan their time of trip. For the entire year, light-weight clothing, preferably cotton stays the best. Since this part of the continent could not escape the African sun, a good sun block lotion with high SPF and shades should be carried along.
